East Resources Office-Substantial Completion

July 2010 -From the outset, development of the East Resources’ office building in Cranberry Township has been a unique experience.  Crossgates has led a creative team in the design and implementation of this beautiful site and structure.

First, the site was a challenge with its topography and proximity to a stream and intermittent water course.  Working with Civil & Environmental Consultants, we designed a site that preserved the stream while securing a permit to pipe the water course, allowing for substantial expansion of the buildable area of the site.

Second, we worked with Burt Hill Kosar Architects to design an office that accommodates the administrative, engineering and mapping operations of East Resources.  This required special attention to natural light using clear story windows in the core area where the extension built-in filing system is located.  The use of natural materials throughout, such as slate and stone, highlights the natural resource business of our client.  Of particular interest is the inlaid display in the stone wall of the lobby which incorporates core drilling samples from well various sites around the country.

Third, as we were under construction with Dynamic Contractors, East Resources began an expansion of their business which required repositioning various interior elements to accommodate more staff within the original building design.  This was accomplished seamlessly, maintaining the construction schedule during one of the worst winter seasons in memory.

Finally, as we were preparing to complete the building, East Resources was purchased by Royal Dutch Shell for $4.7 billion.  We anticipate further expansion of the offices at the site as we work with one of the main producers in the Marcellus Shale in the country.

Yes, it’s been a challenging project, but satisfying in the knowledge that Crossgates and our team of professionals have met every request of East Resources and adapted to provide a beautiful site and office that is functional and will accommodate their continuing growth.
